Can Skype help close achievement gaps?

Bringing more technology into the classroom might strike fear into the hearts of traditional educationalists, but one academic believes it may just hold the key to solving a worldwide problem.

Sugata Mitra, Professor of Educational Technology at Newcastle University in England is using Skype to reach out to students in a distance learning program.

4100-USB

Since broadband delivery requires faster and more efficient transmission, Califone has developed a line of USB-equipped headsets (4100-USB shown above left, 3066-USB, 3064-USB shown above right) and even a USB jackbox (1216-USB) which are ideal companions for today’s digital classroom. Each model allows students to efficiently access media files and streaming video, making them tailored for language learning, adult literacy groups, multimedia applications, music theory classes as well as general listening and call center uses.

Whether for students banding together for a group podcast such as those in Fairfax County Public Schools with the aid of a USB Jackbox, language learning with a teacher located in another state, or an entire class participating in a teleconference, Califone supports  the growth of web 2.0 applications.
