When Being Small is a Good Thing
People come in all shapes and sizes and when it comes to small children in particular, finding audio visual equipment that’s more tailored to their age and size can make a big difference in helping them focus better in school. Since younger students haven’t yet learned to block out unnecessary disturbances, they’re more susceptible to becoming distracted and therefore do not perform to the best of their abilities. In a classroom environment, it is crucial that they pay attention to the tasks at hand and follow along to audio books when applicable.

To ensure that they listen carefully to the audio being played, be it from a computer, boombox or cassette player/recorder, they need to be equipped with headphones that are comfortable and practical. There are a variety of different headphones that have different-sized earcups or different plug types. The headphones in the stereo Listening First™ line are specifically designed to accommodate young learners by being available with an adjustable headband, a right-angle 3.5mm plug and straight cord so they’re not tempted to tangle them up. Shares Mary Thomas, a Special Ed teacher from Madisonville, LA, “We like the 2800-BL headphones because they are good quality & rugged headphones for children. Our special ed students use them when working on computers.” The colorful solid-colored 2800 series and the animal-themed 2810 series engage young learners so they can concentrate better on what the lesson plan of the day is. Whether that calls for listening to music or to previously-recorded audio, wearing headphones that will not take away from their learning experience, and protect their hearing, is as important as the materials they are trying to learn. As Jameelah Wright, an educator from East Orange, NJ states, “I use the Bear-themed Listening First™ headphones in our listening area so our pre-k students can listen to music and recorded books on tape.”
As children grow and mature, they tend to take better care of their equipment but with smaller children, that may not be the case. This is exactly why these particular headphones are made with durable ABS plastic and slotted baffles to increase headphone safety so that the internal speaker does not get perforated. Students of any age should not have to worry about what they are using to listen and learn more efficiently in the classroom. With the Listening First headphones, even the smallest students won’t have to.
