Attention All Readers

For many teachers or reading specialists who find themselves in the midst of a hectic school day, some semblance of organization can be most welcome. Preparing a curriculum filled with multiple activities on a daily basis can often feel stressful and perhaps a little daunting for new teachers. Keeping students engrossed with what you’ve lined up means they are more likely to learn what has been presented to them and giving students the necessary tools for individual learning can be a great addition to any classroom environment.

Students of any age learning to speak English for the first time or wanting to expand their knowledge by learning a foreign language can quickly decipher that repetition goes a long way toward getting the vocabulary and pronunciation down pat. Repeatedly practicing the same words over and over will eventually ensure that they improve their pronunciation and that is where the Califone Reader card reader literally comes in to play. The Reader is a useful and efficient card reader that “helps to teach English and vocabulary to my ELL students,” according to Maria Xuarez, a 3rd grade teacher from Miami, FL.

“The READER Card Reader allows our K-5 students to practice independently”

While using a card reader to record and play back responses can also be beneficial toward improving language skills, the exercise of reiterating basic, everyday vocabulary words or those for compound words or telling time, among others, will help develop their proficiency and instill the confidence they need because they can do it by themselves. Pam Puckett, an ESOL teacher from Flowery Branch, GA shares: “The READER Card Reader allows our K-5 students to practice independently as they learn to pronounce and recognize their sight words.” Students who continuously scan the card programs through the Reader will inevitably engrain the proper pronunciation into their minds so they correctly learn how to read them in the future. Being able to feel comfortable and confident leaving students to practice their language learning on their own frees up time for teachers to focus on those students who may need a little help. Looking around the classroom and seeing each student occupied with this language leaning activity can make for quite the feeling of accomplishment.
