Searching for Specific Content
2nd in a series of articles about boomboxes
You’ve planned out the next day’s lesson and even found the perfect CD to bring from home to reinforce a key concept. You know which track you want, but it’s so long – how can you find the specific passage you wanted?
Some boomboxes which include a CD player usually offer a CD track selection feature, enabling you to select and play a segment on the CD. But this doesn’t help you to search within a single track to locate a specific point in a song or a speech. The Music Maker™ series (2385AV-03, 2395AV-02, 2395IR) and Performer Plus™ multimedia players and the Personal CD Player all feature that very capability of searching within a single track.
The two keys to unlock the freedom of stopping at any point within a single track are the Fast Forward and Rewind buttons. Pressing either button once allows you to toggle to a different track going forward or backward respectively. Pressing and holding down either button enables you to search for a specific part within a track. The LCD display shows the length of the track in minutes and seconds as you hold down the button to search, makes seeking for the specific stopping point very easy.
Holding down the Fast Forward or Reverse buttons on the multimedia players (left image) or the Skip -/+ buttons (right image) on the CD102 enables you to search within a track.
Some of the benefits this search feature includes:
• Enhance the learning experience of a Recorded Book – As students follow the story while it’s playing on the CD , it’s easy for them to get back to important passages or segments they’ve missed or want to hear a few more times.
• Improve listening comprehension skills – The ability to search within a single track enables you to quickly play different parts of the track to students. This could be used to train students’ listening skills whether it’s teaching them to recognize procedures and sequences, becoming familiar with rhyming words, or practice making new sentences.
• Develop appreciation for music theory – In a music class, you can utilize the search within a single music piece capability to teach students different scales, beats, cadence etc. It adds fun to learning basic or even difficult music theories.
The capability of searching within a single track brings the world of learning to your fingertips. Before you purchase your next multimedia player, make sure this great feature is included.
