MP3 Players Increase in Schools

Califone announced today results of an online poll asking educators about the number of MP3 players supplied for use in their classrooms and libraries.

Held from August, 2009 to January 18th, 2010, the online survey asked if there was a change from last school year to this year in the number of MP3 players used in their class. A  resounding 87.3% said the number of units stayed the same or increased. “The efficacy and accessibility of this portable technology has been embraced by parents, teachers, and students,” shared the company’s Tim Ridgway, VP of marketing.

Used by students for many different uses, this new generation of media players enables teachers to access an additional tool for students. Susan Bethel, a special education teacher in Afton, NY who helps students with learning disabilities who are taking regular classes said, “Students can use the MP3 player without drawing attention to themselves. It doesn’t make them stand out.

46.6% of respondents indicated last year they had none of this technology in their classes or libraries, but this year they have at least five units, while 26.1% wrote they now have at least 10 units.
