Translation Simplification

The world seems to be becoming a smaller and smaller place to live, and communication as a result is increasingly important. Language obstacles are nothing new, but when considered for ESL students (and their parents) in schools, it takes on a different kind of importance.

For foreign language speaking parents, one occasion where the need for translation help is important is on Back-to-School night. It’s no secret that the amount and scope of translation activities have increased dramatically in school districts across the country.  To cite one extreme example, LAUSD supports instruction to students in over 100 languages. Children in such school districts may be enrolled in ESL programs, but many of their parents aren’t and are often unable to participate in their child’s education because of inadequate English language skills. However, on Back-to-School nights or during PTA meetings something different can be done to ensure that they have the ability to fully comprehend what’s being said. That something different is implementing the Califone Assistive Listening System that allows both staff or volunteers willing to aid in translation to communicate effectively with groups of non-English speaking parents.

As simple as providing each parent with a wireless audio receiver and stereo headphones (each receiver has dual headphone outlets so one can be shared between two people), you or a volunteer can easily use the wireless audio system transmitter to speak directly into its plugged-in microphone and transmit whatever translation is necessary. Gone will be any possible miscommunication between educators and their students’ parents. Welcome will be the intelligible exchange of information.

Useful also for translation assistance is the wireless listening system which can also come in handy during Back to School nights.
