Upgrades Infrared Headphones

Consolidates Monaural and Stereo Models for Simplification in Class

In response to the growing classroom dependence on computer-based programs for reading development and language learning, Califone has announced improvements to its Infrared Headphone.

The multipurpose headphone can be used for listening to monaural-based language and computer-based stereo activities via a switch on the right earcup to toggle between the two modalities. The new headphone is a consolidation between former monaural only (34B-IR) and stereo only (35IR-USB) infrared models. It has an adjustable headband with a comfort strap along with ambient noise-reducing earcups to help block out external distractions and keep students on task.

The wireless headphone (HIR-HP1) receives the audio signal not only from from a classroom computer with a connected USB transmitter and extender, but also from the company’s Infrared Music Maker boombox and its Infrared Cassette player (players which are equipped with built-in infrared transmitters).  Already included in learning centers for the Music Maker (2395IRPLC-6) and the Cassette player (3432IR-PLC), additional headphones can be added for expanded groups of differentiated learners. Since the transmitter is built into the media players, adding another USB transmitter is not necessary (a single one is needed for a group). For a group of students listening to audio from a computer, a four-person system is also available that includes the transmitter. There is no limit to the number of listeners as long as they’re within the 20′ transmission range (with a clear line of sight) between the headphone and transmitter.

An individual headphone can be purchased with the transmitter (HIR-KT1).

If the situation requires an expanded range of reception or more listeners than can comfortably fit into the 20′ range, two alternatives are the VHF Listening or the Tour Guide System.
