Mobile Devices with Portable PAs
Califone released the results today of an online poll asking educators and professional audio technicians about their preferred method of playing music through a portable PA.
A staggering 73.1% of the participants reported when they wanted to play music for a large group through a portable PA system, the preference was to connect an iPhone or iPod to the PA. “Considering the advent of smartphones was only four to five years ago, these results underscore just how significant and rapidly the shift has been in how educators, church, business and pro audio personnel use portable PA systems,” shared the company’s Tim Ridgway, VP Marketing. The second most popular answer was to insert a CD (19.2%), followed by connecting a portable media player (7.7%). Two other options were also available, but their responses were not statistically significant.
The survey did not go into additional detail about whether participants wanted to play previously recorded music downloaded onto their mobile device or if they’d use a streaming service such as Pandora. The Califone hosted survey was held online for a three-month period ending August 5th, 2011.
