New digital CardMaster card reader, AV2, offers game-style flash-formatted learning environment and digital interactivity to foster literacy and language development.
The first device of its kind specifically for educational use, the new AV2 from Califone International features a digital media player, camera, camcorder, and gaming console in one portable system. Califone has upgraded its popular CardMaster card reader for the 21st century classroom with the launch of the AV2. The handheld device’s familiar form factor and digital interactivity enables educators to engage students of all abilities and skill levels and foster literacy and language development.
“Student learning through game-like content is becoming the next level of engagement,” said Tim Ridgway, VP of marketing, Califone. “The AV2 is the first educationally specific handheld device that enables students to take advantage of the interactivity of Adobe Flash® programming. And as more educational publishers convert their analog content into this universally accepted format, literacy and language development with the AV2 will be just its beginning to meet the diverse needs of students.”
The AV2 provides schools with a versatile, affordable portable media device, enabling educators to engage students in interactive, game-style learning experiences across the curriculum in a wide-range of educational settings. Teachers can easily integrate mobile learning in reading and language arts classes, while helping students develop 21st century skills. Students can download, store and play interactive games and music, capture still images and videos, read eBooks, and record audio. With the built-in camera, students can showcase their creativity and hone media literacy skills. Teachers can create customized playlists for individualized and differentiated learning. Through a simple USB connection, the device can connect to a computer, projector, amplifier or speakers, and televisions for whole-class or group instruction.
As the AV2 was designed specifically for student use, the device has built-in 85 dB hearing protection. This feature can also be disarmed for students with special hearing needs. The device supports a variety of digital media formats, including JPG, AVI, MPEG, DAT, MP4, and SWF. The AV2 will run for at least 3.5 hours on its built-in rechargeable batteries, and offers 4 GB of NAND Flash Memory and accommodates up to 16 GB on an SD card, for true classroom versatility.
For a limited time, the AV2 comes with pre-loaded content from seven CardMaster card reader programs, such as Basic Vocabulary, Everyday Words, and Phonics, that speech pathologists, reading specialists, and elementary teachers have trusted for decades. Students build their vocabulary, phonics, comprehension, and fluency skills through kinesthetic, audio and visual methods. The programs are valued at more than $300.
The AV2 comes with a one-year warranty, with service support available through authorized dealers nationwide.
