7th Winner in 10-Day Spirit SD Classroom Learning Center Giveaway Contest
On this the opening day of the 2012 Major League Baseball season, Rachel Evers hit the ball out of the park to become the 7th winner in the 10th anniversary Spirit Classroom Learning contest!
A Kindergarten Teacher at Oriole Beach Elementary (Home of the Sea Turtles), in Gulf Breeze, FL, Evers will use her new center to update an extremely outdated one. Her two focus points for the center will be to offer leveled reading groups and math programs to teach the Common Core State Standards.
Evers shared her “Kindergarten grade level recently purchased multiple copies of the books from our reading series, Harcourt Storytown. Our class could fully utilize these books through the Spirit Boombox, to revisit the stories we read in whole group and increase comprehension. Additionally, because the Spirit has the cassette feature as well as the CD, I could make tapes to go along with leveled readers for differentiated reading groups. The benefit of having individual headsets will provide a much more streamline, focused reading/listening experience for the students and would allow them to have the stories modeled on tape as they develop their phonemic awareness and fluency.”
“Have the stories modeled on tape to develop their phonemic awareness and fluency.”
She’ll also integrate the Spirit SD Learning Center at their Math Stations for listening to books that align with math concepts they study in GO! Math (Houghton Mifflin). Evers will also use the Spirit to provide a technologically advanced means for continuing to use music (Dr. Jean, Jack Hartmann, et. al.) to facilitate learning in a fun and meaningful way!
Thanks again for participating in the 10 Spirit SD Classroom Learning Centers in 10 Days contest Rachel – and congratulations!
