Company Fully Committed to Staying Ahead of Environmental and Safety Regulations for Student Safety
San Fernando, CA (March, 2008) — In 2006, Europe passed the RoHS Directive, mandating that electrical and electronic products sold in the European market must contain restrictive levels of substances that can be hazardous in large amounts, including lead, cadmium and mercury. In addition, China, Australia and Japan have passed similar legislations, and last year, 20 states within the United States and Canada developed plans for RoHS-like regulations. Califone International, Inc., is fully committed to providing products that are as safe as possible, which is why the company has been creating educational products that follow RoHS standards for years.
“We are pleased to provide safe audio equipment to educators worldwide - products that are made with materials that we know are appropriate for extended periods of use by young children,” said Tim Ridgway, VP of Marketing for Califone. “As most educators and parents know, classroom electronics such as headphones, mice and keyboards must withstand the handling by small children. We pride ourselves in offering schools safe, high-quality audio-visual equipment featuring a variety of technologies and regulatory approvals which are beyond industry norms. Unlike items from some consumer and school audio manufacturers, appropriate Califone products include UL and CE approvals, materials that are EPA registered, FDA listed & NSF certified, and are made with ABS plastic, which will not shatter into potentially dangerous shards.”
Setting new industry requirements for environmental protection and recycling, RoHS refers to restrictions pertaining to the use of certain hazardous substances. “RoHS is changing the electronics industry,” Ridgway said. “As the education industry’s leading provider of audio-visual tools, we welcome the opportunity to share our expertise as states, districts and schools begin to comply with changing regulations.”
