The key to a listening center is the jackbox, the distribution point from the audio source to the headphones. The jackbox enables an individual or small group of students to listen to content without disrupting others. At the same time, this also makes it an ideal tool for individual or small group differentiated learning, literacy, story-time and language learning applications.
The 1285G Sound Alert™ monaural jackbox helps students learn and understand the importance of safe sound levels with its unique, red warning light that visibly signals when the jackbox volume exceeds the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association's recommended 85dB level. Good listening skills are critical to a 21st century education and students should learn how to protect their own hearing. This is why this safety feature ensures that students' safe, lifelong listening practices begin in the classroom, learning center or library. The Sound Alert jackbox is ideal for use with cassette player/recorders and other monaural audio sources to expand the number of students and create learning center groups for literacy, ELL/ELD, and language learning applications as well as read-along and story-time activities.
Built with rugged, durable ABS plastic that won't shatter for safety and prolonged use, it can also be used as a traditional jackbox without charging the battery, but the red warning LED feature will not operate. A green LED light indicates the jackbox is powered and functioning. The Sound Alert jackbox conserves its power by shutting off when no audio signal is present for 60 seconds and will power on automatically when there is an audio signal present. It features ten ¼” headphone jacks with silver-plated contacts to prevent “crackling” sounds, a permanently attached 6' cord with ¼” and 3.5mm plugs to connect to a monaural media player, skid-resistant pads under each corner so it won't scratch the tabletop, two predrilled holes to permanently affix it to a surface, and a master volume control for all listeners.
The Sound Alert jackbox is available individually and as a listening center with eight 2924AVG monaural headphones and carry case. It's also offered with the Spirit (1776) Multimedia Player/Recorder and six 2924AVG headphones.
