“I have a severely developmentally delayed 10-year-old son whose ability to speak and communicate is very limited. He has been working with your card reader for the past year and has made tremendous progress in many areas. It has opened up his world and we have even discovered through using the reader that he is able to sight-read simple words. The possibilities that this has given him are just too much to imagine. His thirst to learn is insatiable, and if it were up to him, he would do nothing but work with the card reader all day. Thank you very much!!” Linda W. Monroeville, PA
A: The CardMaster™CardMaster™ card reader will switch its speaker off when a headset is plugged in so that sound only comes out of the headset’s earcups. Detach the headphone so all involved parties can hear the playback.
A: The best way to ensure the CardMaster™ card readers can correctly “read” the card programs is to keep the card flat against the bottom of the slot, moving it toward the arrow. This will activate the card reader to essentially take over and automatically move the card for you along its internal card drive mechanism.
A: In order to clean the heads on the CardMaster™ card reader the unit would need to be opened. Before doing so, first make sure the speed switch located in the battery compartment is at ‘normal’ speed. Then record onto a blank card and run it through the card reader again as it should now be heard at normal speed. Please contact our Tech Support Dept for assistance if problems persist.
A: The CardMaster™ card reader would need to be recalibrated to ensure the cards go through properly. If the unit is under warranty, please contact our Customer Service Dept. for repair assistance.
A: In order for custom-recorded cards to play on the READER card reader, you need to make sure you recorded the cards on the CardMaster™ card reader using the “teacher track” and not the “student track”. Please contact our Tech Support Dept for assistance if problems persist.
A: The 2964AV monaural headset has two ¼” plugs that cannot connect to the READER card reader’s 3.5mm headphone jack. A stereo headphone with a 3.5mm plug is compatible with this card reader. The 2964AV is best used with the CardMaster™. Learn about the differences between headset and headphone plugs.
A: The monaural 2964AV headset has two ¼” plugs so it can be used for both listening and recording. One plug is for the headphone part and the other is for the boom microphone that can be used to create vocal recordings onto the CardMaster™ card reader. Click here to learn more about headphone and headset plugs.
A: If you’re listening to cards recorded in class (compared to using preprogrammed cards), make sure the person who’s doing the recording is close enough to the built-in microphone to be clearly picked up. Read more about using Blank Cards with the CardMaster™. If the volume level on your CardMaster is at its maximum setting and there is no audio output, please contact our Tech Support Dept for assistance.
A: A small amount of static is to be expected when the CardMaster™ card readers are in use. If you find the loud static sound to occur only when adjusting the volume level there may be a problem with the volume knob. However, if the entire unit has a high static level, the unit may be defective and you will need to contact our Customer Service Dept. for a replacement unit if it is still under warranty.
An alternative to using the CardMaster is to utilize the AV Tutor™ digital card reader to enhance language learning and speech therapy with its variety of digital cartridge programs.
A: In order to record onto the 1100BC blank magnetic cards using either the 2010AV and 2020AV CardMaster™ card readers, you need to first make sure you unlock the switch for the Teacher Track located inside the battery compartment. Once unlocked, simply hold down the ‘RECORD’ button while simultaneously sliding a blank card through and speaking into the built-in microphone.
A: Check the speed switch located in the battery compartment of the CardMaster™ card reader and make sure that normal speed is selected. Record on a blank card and read it again, the card should now be heard at normal speed.
A: Simply lock the Teacher Track Interlock located inside the battery compartment of a CardMaster™ so students won’t record over or erase the teacher’s recordings.
A: Yes. The half speed feature on our CardMaster™ gives you about 50% more recording time than the standard speed hence allows you to record a longer response. Note: The responses recorded at half speed must be playback at half speed setting.
A: With both the 2010AV and 2020AV CardMaster™ card readers, you need to first make sure you unlock the switch for the Teacher Track located inside the battery compartment. Once unlocked, simply hold down the ‘RECORD’ button while simultaneously sliding a blank card through and speaking into the built-in microphone.
A: For both the 2010AV and the 2020AV card readers, you will first need to unlock the hidden teacher record interlock located inside the battery compartment. Then, switch the student/teacher track record key to the down position. Once unlocked, proceed with sliding the card reader program cards through as desired.
A: If you have had your card reader program cards for many years, the magnetic strip could be worn or defective. We recommend that you try using some brand new cards to see if they might work with your 2010AV. If the problem persists, please contact our Tech Support Dept.
