The MP3 capable Music Maker is designed to support audio assisted classroom learning. Engineered for durability and reliability, it's made with rugged ABS plastic (which won't shatter) unlike most consumer products so it will stand up to daily classroom use. It has a cassette recorder / player, 20 track programmable CD player, and an AM-FM stereo. It can also play teacher created digital content to help with customizing materials for differentiated learning situations such as working with students to promote phonemic awareness, phonics, comprehension, vocabulary, ELL, ELD and other language learning activities.
Store bought CDs are formatted CD containing CDA files (which prevent the copying of copyright material), which the majority of CD players can read and play. CDs burned by consumers duplicate an exact copy of the original (including the CDA files). Most CD players will play copied CDs unless they have a mechanism that will not allow copied copyright material to be read by the CD drivers. MP3 audio files use a unique format (with a greatly reduced file size) which allows someone to put more content onto a single CD. Only certain CD players can read this unique disk. You cannot create an MP3 CD and use it with any CD player even though the CDs may appear identical. However the files inserted onto the disk are indeed different. The MP3 capable Music Maker can read this unique CD.
Califone recommends that customers use a program that automatically converts wma, wav and other associated files into MP3 formats. The reason for this is that such programs automatically convert the files so you don't have to manually convert them. If you do not have software such as this, than make sure that you convert the files to MP3 files via generic burning software. The Califone boom box can only read MP3s and Cdda files. Cdda's are the standard file format for store bought CDs; and Mp3's are the standard compressed files used for music or general audio files.
Since the rate of play on CD's is slower than the larger memory cache stores information, the Music Maker™ will occasionally stop spinning the CD (even though music will continue to be heard). This is to be expected until the memory is depleted and more information can be re-uploaded into the buffer.

A: Yes. The Music Maker Series multimedia players (2385-03, 2395AV-02, 2395IR) and our Performer Plus™ all come with the cord wraps on the back of the units.
A: To keep the programmed radio stations in the media players, do not turn off the power at the end of the day; just leave the machine on the “stand by” position.
A: The CD window may be displaying “OPEN” for one of two reasons. First, the switch that registers the status of the door when it is closed or open could be faulty. Second, the CD mechanism may need to be replaced. Califone sells a replacement CD module for the MP3 Capable Music Maker™ and other boomboxes except the Spirit™. Please contact our Customer Service Dept to inquire more about this CD module.
A: When facing the front side of the Music Maker series media players (2385AV-03 and 2395AV-02), the built-in electret microphone is behind the left speaker grille, at about one o’clock position.
A: The 2385AV-03 Music Maker is capable of reading CDs with MP3 files. This is not to be confused with an MP3 player; the 2385AV-03 Music Maker cannot be used as an MP3 player to download MP3 files, but it can read a CD with MP3 files on it. Califone also offers MP3 Player 8101 and MP3 Learning Centers 8102 and 8104.
A: Califone recommends the 2455AV Performer Plus™ as an alternative to the 2395AV Music Maker™ as it is also a dual cassette/CD media player, has 14 watts RMS and 6 built-in headphone jacks. Depending on your use, the 2385-03 may be an upgrade since it plays MP3 files (on CDs).
A: On any dual-cassette media player, simultaneously press down on both 'RECORD' and 'PLAY' on the first cassette deck that you will record to and then press 'PLAY' on the second cassette deck which you will record from.
A: There is a speaker balance adjustment on the Performer Plus and most other Califone multimedia players. It should be normally set for the speaker balance to be in the center and not too far to the left or right.
A: No. Depending upon which Califone multimedia player you have, it can only be used to record onto a cassette tape, whether recording from the radio, another cassette, voice responses or a CD. The 2385-03 can play MP3 files and the new 8101 MP3 player/recorder however can record an MP3/wav file.
A: The 2455AV uses the RC-2400 remote control. The 2385AV, 2395AV and 2395IR boomboxes use the RC-2300 remote control. There is no remote control available for the Spirit 1776 boombox. The RC-2300 and RC-2400 may be purchased individually. Please contact our Customer Service Dept. for more information.
